What is saved, and who can see it
Most of this site you can read without signing in. You only need an account to take a course, so that your work is saved and follows you from one device to another. Here is what that means in plain words.
What is saved
- Your email address, so you can sign in with a code.
- The name you give yourself, and the first names of any children you add.
- Your coursework: your answers, notes, quiz results and progress in each course.
- Whether you belong to a group (Beth Israel or ALEPH), and which courses you can open: through a group, a subscription, or free access I gave you.
- When you joined and when you last signed in.
Who can see it
- You. Everything on your account is on your My account page.
- Me, as your teacher. I can see accounts, learners and saved work so I can teach and help.
- No one else. Other students can’t see your work. I don’t sell anything about you, show ads, or use tracking cookies.
Children under 13
Children don’t sign in or give an email address. A parent, guardian or teacher signs in and adds the child under My account, with a first name only, and confirms that they agree to the child’s work being saved. That adult can see, download or delete the child’s work at any time. If you would like anything about a child removed, write to me and I will remove it.
Payments
Subscriptions are paid on Stripe’s secure checkout page. Your card details go to Stripe, never to this site. Stripe sells the subscription for me through its Link service, so Link collects any sales tax and sends your receipts, and Stripe’s and Link’s own privacy policies cover what they keep. This site keeps a record of your subscriptions and payments (dates, amounts and receipt links) so you can see them on My account.
Where it is kept
Accounts and coursework are stored with Supabase, in a database in the United States. The website itself runs on Cloudflare, and sign-in codes are emailed through Resend. Each of them handles your information only to provide that service.
Emails and cookies
I email you only to send a sign-in code, and Stripe’s Link service sends receipts and reminders if you subscribe. I won’t add you to a mailing list. The site keeps you signed in with one small cookie and your browser’s own storage.
Taking it with you, or deleting it
On My account you can see your subscriptions and payments, cancel a subscription, download everything saved on your account, remove a child you added, or delete your account once no subscription is set to renew. Deleting removes your account and all of its saved work from the database right away.
